[LEAK] Canon’s New 100-400 Is Finally Coming

It seems like eons that people have been waiting for this lens!  Finally a replacement for the push-pull design of the old version.  Looks like this lens will be coming out within the next few weeks and it would be a perfect partner to the Canon 7D MKII. The design is very reminiscent of the excellent 70-300 L IS. No pricing information yet. Via Canon Rumours

Think Tank Launches New Perception Series For Mirrorless

At PhotoPlus Expo this week the folks at Think Tank Photo launched a great looking new line of camera backpacks designed primarily for mirroless systems and everyday usage with laptops and tablet computers.  The Perception line takes its design queues from the Shape Shifter pack, a pack that’s one of my favourites and is nearly always with me.  Sometimes I’ve wanted something a little smaller though and the Perspective series delivers that in three sizes, the Tablet, the 15 and the Pro. NOTE: Buy any of these bags by clicking through the links on this page and you’ll get the …

Canon 7D MkII Leaked With New 400mm And New Pancake Lens

Ahead of the widely assumed Monday announcement of the long-awaited Canon 7D MkII, photos and a supposedly confirmed spec list have appeared on several rumour websites.  Alongside the 7D MKII, Canon look set to launch a new version of the 400mm f/4 DO IS as well as an EF-S 24mm f/2.8 pancake and a 24-105 f/3.5-5.6. After years of wild speculation on the 7D’s specs, there isn’t really anything surprising about them at all.  A Canon DSLR finally gets the ability to record 1080p at 60fps though, they added an intervalometer for timelapse and they included GPS in the camera. …

Sony Introduces The Pocket Camera I’ve Always Dreamed Of……

I can count the number of times I’ve been compelled to write about a point and shoot camera on the fingers of one hand.  Today though, Sony have launched the RX100 MKIII and within this diminutive little package lies one single feature that is the sole key to my excitement; an electronic viewfinder. In theory I like to have access to a decent point and shoot camera whenever I’m out and about.  It makes for an excellent way to grab images for social media, blog and newsletter consumption.  My problem with any compact camera has always been the lack of …

Canon Launches A New 16-35 f/4 L IS

I’ve been using the Canon 17-40 f/4 L for 10 years.  It was actually the first lens that I bought with my first DSLR, a Canon 10D.  That thing has been a workhorse for me, but there’s room for improvement in the corner image quality so I’m hoping that’s what we’ll see from this new lens just announced by Canon. I’d guess that this is a replacement to the old 17-40, though it’s not mentioned as such directly.  Of course, there is also the 16-35 f2.8 L II, but the addition of a 4-stop image stabilizer to this new lens …

Introducing Shutter Muse – Win a MindShift Rotation 180

ShutterMuse_Logo_Full_800x800Today I want to introduce you guys to my new photography website Shutter Muse. When I started my blog here I never anticipated that thousands of people would stop by to read it each and every day.  I’m truly grateful to all of you!  You may have noticed that the number of posts I have been putting up has declined a bit in recent months.  There’s been a good reason for this and I’m pleased to be able to revel this new website to you today.  I wanted to launch a site that was built from the ground up to bring you guys amazing content and incredible photo stories.  In the long term I know that I didn’t want to do this on my own, and it wouldn’t have made sense for other people to contribute to a blog called Dan Carr.  Shutter Muse was born.

We have big plans for this site and it’s going to allow me even more time to write, and even more opportunities for adventures.  I can’t go into too much details about the future just yet, but let’s just say I’m excited!!

$4000 Carl Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 Launched

Carl Zeiss have finally launched the much talked about 55mm f/1.4 lens previously described by them as ‘no compromise’.  It marks the beginning of a new lines of lenses for them, to be called Otus, and it comes in a Canon or Nikon mount for the hefty price tag of $4000.  I’ve had my hands on one of these lenses in New York last year and even though that was a very pre-production model the results appeared impressive.  Moreover, the build quality was like nothing I have ever seen on a DSLR lens, it certainly felt more like a cine …

ARRI AMIRA Unveiled at IBC 2013

In a somewhat surprising move, ARRI has unveiled a new HD/2k camera at IBC 2013 called the AMIRA.  The camera shoots up to 200fps and delivers the quality of an ALEXA by using the same sensor but in a much smaller package designed for the single operator.  ARRI has pegged this as a ‘documentary camera’ and it appears therefore to feature everything you would need right out of the box including things like XLR inputs for audio (including AES digital) and an OLED viewfinder that also doubles as a screen when the eyepiece is flipped to the side.  The AMIRA …
