Credit Where Credit is Due: Lexar Warranty

This is a little off-topic from my usual blog posts, but I strive to provide useful information to you guys, and I genuinely feel this is worth knowing about. Last week I noticed that one of my Lexar Professional 1000x SD cards was broken. Part of the plastic casing had come apart, and I could no longer insert it safely into a camera. I’ve never had to warranty a memory card before, and I think in general I get filled with a sense of dread at the thought of fighting long wait times in online chat support centres, or even …

Brand New Gear Guide Launched!

Today I’m really excited to announce the completion of my brand new Gear Guide. Historically this part of my site has been one of the most popular, but I knew it needed a facelift and I also wanted to make it easier to update in the future. The Gear Guide homepage contains a simple list of all the gear that I use – both photographic and non-photographic – but it now includes an index to a much more in-depth look at different sets of gear. I’ve spent well over 150 hours working on this new guide and I’m sure it …

Best Divi Site Designs Feature on Winning WP

Not too long ago, my website was featured by the makers of my favourite WordPress themes, Elegant Themes, as one of the top 25 sites using the Divi framework.  For those that don’t know, WordPress is a powerful website platform that’s free to use, but it requires a “Theme” to be used to take care of the look of the site.  That’s why not all WordPress sites look the same.  I use a theme from Elegant Themes called Extra, and it’s built on their incredible Divi framework that allows massive amounts of customizations to be carried out by regular Joes like …

Best Photography Blogs Feature

I was thrilled to learn recently about my inclusion in First Site Guide’s list of best photography blogs, even better, they created this awesome illustration of me as well! First Site Guide is a website about creating your first blog, and it seems to be an excellent resource on that subject.  As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts this month, my website is a hugely important part of my business and I’ve lost count of the number of emails and other messages I get which start with “I was just browsing your website and…”. A well thought out and well …

Watch My Interview on the Divi Nation WordPress Podcast

My website has always played a vital role in my business, and over the years it has developed into something I’m very proud of. The site is built on the WordPress platform, and I use a theme from Elegant Themes, called Extra. I also use a theme called Divi from Elegant Themes over on Shutter Muse. Both of these themes are built around ET’s Divi Builder framework which comes with the Divi and Extra themes, or can be added to any other theme using a plugin. I’m definitely NOT a web designer, but the Divi Builder allows me to create …

My Website Featured Again In “Best Of” List

Once again, my website has been featured in a “best of” list, this time by Wordpress theme makers, Elegant Themes.  Elegant Themes make two WordPress themes, Divi and Extra, that use a framework called the Divi Builder.  It allows you to do some really awesome designs without needing to be a web designer and it’s also available as a plugin so that it can be used with an existing theme. ET recently published a list of 25 Stunning Divi Sites to Feed Your Inspiration, and I’m proud to say that this site was featured on their list. I take my …

Aerial Photography Timelapse

A few weeks ago I took an awesome flight with the folks from Sea To Sky Air in Squamish, BC.  The mission was to photography two prominent local mountains: Black Tusk in Whistler, and Sky Pilot in Squamish. I used a GoPro Hero 4 Black strapped to the wing of the plane to record a timelapse of the flight, and then I edited a selection of the final processed images into the timelapse at the relevant points in the video.  I’m calling it a slidelapse (slideshow+timelapse). The whole thing was edited together in Final Cut Pro X, and uploaded in …

That’s Not A Backup!!

Over on Shutter Muse, I’ve added to my series of articles about photography workflow and backup routines.  In this new post, I wanted to highlight some specific dangers that are coming from general misunderstandings of RAID systems and the term “backup”.  If you cherish your photo collection, I’d urge you to hop on over and check it out!

Click Click, Tick Tock – Free Excerpt

This week my latest eBook, Click Click, Tick Tock, became available exclusively as part of the 5DayDeal Complete Photography Business Bundle.  You can get $1900 worth of photo business training for just $87, but it only lasts a few days and the clock is ticking. Learn More   My contribution to the bundle is my new photography workflow eBook, and I thought what better way to introduce you guys to what it’s all about, than to let you read the introduction.  I’ve approached the much-discussed topic of workflow from a slightly different angle, and it’s all based on my own …

PDN Magazine Feature

I’ve had this magazine on my desk for a while but I’m only just getting around to posting about it so hopefully some of you caught it when it was on the shelves.  I did a phone interview with the folks from PDN Magazine last summer, about some of my recent work and specifically the workflow that I employ for my files.  It’s a real honour to be featured in such a prominent photography industry magazine, and they even included a selfie that I took, haha!  Ok, so I didn’t use a selfie stick or anything like that! It was …
