Canon has today announced the development of a new 200-400mm f4 lens which will feature a built in 1.4 extender. This is the lens of my dreams and one that Canon shooters have been waiting for for a very long time. The build in 1.4 teleconverter is a huge feature that has never been seen before ! For a long time Nikon shooter has been using their 200-400mm f4 for sports and wildlife whilst Canon shooter have only really had the 100-400mm f4-5.6 L IS with it’s antiquated push pull zoom design. People have speculated for a while that Canon …

Canon Launches the 600D / T3i Digital SLR

Canon has today launched a new consumer SLR called the 600D (t3i) which sits directly below the 60D in their product lineup. The specs of the camera are an incremental step up from the old 550D but a few ergonomic changes have been made and the vari-angle swiveling LCD that we saw on the 60D has also made an appearance. It’s getting pretty crazy the sort of features that are trickling down from the high end cameras to the consumer level. I fully expect this to be a fantastic camera that will meet and exceed many peoples photographic needs. The …

RODE Introduces a New DSLR Microphone, the Videomic Pro

The original Rode Videomic became a ubiquitous accessory for DSLR shooters. Originally launched long before the introduction of DSLR video capable cameras, an update has been expected for a while. Philip Bloom teased some images a while back where the mic was blurred out of his photos and I was pretty certain this was what he was testing. Today it was confirmed that a new mic has been added to the lineup. People looking for a compact setup before had to choose between the Videomic or the Sennheiser MKE400. The advantage of the MKE400 was that it was much smaller …

Sony Releases a Rretty Cool Looking 5″ DSLR Monitor

Clip-on LCD monitor from Sony for HD video shooting with Interchangeable Lens Digital cameras13 January 2011 No word on pricing of this monitor but it looks like a decent mid range solution for DSLR movie making if you want a compact setup. The built in swivel is a nice touch and means no need to get an articulating arm or a small fiddly extra ballhead. You can of course use this on ANY DSLR with HDMI output, not just Sony cameras. No word on how this screen deals with the weird output signal from a Canon 5dmkII though… • Clip-on …

What’s In a Name – Canon G10

A couple of days ago Canon launched a new camera, and they called it the G10….. Why would Canon decide to call this new camera the G10 ? It’s going to play havoc with the search engines when people are trying to find information about this new camera. Perhaps there is nobody even reading this post right now because when you typed G10 into google, instead of showing you this article you were directed to a CNET review of a 2 year old point and shoot camera. Yes you have seen the Canon G10 name before adorning the side of …

Canon Sneaks out Another High End Camcorder the XA10

There has been a reasonable amount of coverage of the HF G10 Camcorder in the tech world this morning. A nicely packaged little consumer HD video from Canon launched at the opening of the CES trade show in Las Vegas. Reading Canon’s press release gives you details about every update to their consumer lineup but incredibly fails to mention the best camera from the Launch. Canon’s hidden Easter Egg – the XA10. Even sites like Engadget, the world’s leading tech new site hasn’t noticed this camera and I’m frankly baffled about why they wouldn’t bother to put it in the …
