Profoto Announces New B4 Air

Profoto updates their Air lineup again, introducing the new B4 Air which will take flash durations down to 25,000 of second.  This could well be the new king of portable strobes for action sports photogs.  My question is what is Elinchrom playing at ?  They have a loyal following in the portable strobe world with the Ranger RX but it has been years since any updates.  They need to come out with something new soon or I will be switching to this new B4 system!   Profoto Introduces New Pro-B4 1000 Air Durable new battery generator sets a new standard …

Fuji’s Upcoming New Products For Photokina

Leaked images of Fuji’s new cameras have appeared online today and boy do Fuji know how to design a camera.  The first is the cheaper alternative to the X-Pro 1 , the X-E1 which is available in black or silver.  The second appears to be a regular point and shoot camera but given Fuji’s now standard retro makeover and it looks gorgeous.  No real word on specs yet but it is clear that the X-E1 doesn’t include an optical viewfinder.  This is actually a good thing in my opinion as my experience withe Fuji X100 left me dissatisfied with focus …

Canon 40mm f2.8 STM Firmware Update

Firmware Version 1.2.0 addresses the following phenomenon 1. If pressure is applied to the lens barrel while the lens is mounted to the camera (pressure can be applied even while attaching the lens cap or while carrying the camera with the lens attached in a bag), the autofocusing function of the lens may stop working. A Canon EOS 1D X, 5D III (at v1.1.3 or later) or a Rebel T4i/650D is needed to install the upgrade. Alternatively, the lens can be sent to Canon Service to have the firmware upgrade installed. Are Sony About To Change The Camera Industry ?

It’s not all that often that I feel compelled to write about something based on a rumor but this warrants further discussion for two reasons.  Firstly the source has been remarkably reliable in the past and secondly, what they are rumoring is a real game changer.  Sony Alpha Rumors is reporting that Sony’s next NEX cameras will feature support for apps, and an internet connection.  In my opinion this has been a long time coming.  Think of how successful photography apps have been on the iPhone.  Now imagine if that was coupled to a camera that actually had some power …

Canon 40mm f2.8 STM Product Advisory

Canon have posted a product advisory relating to the excellent little 40mm f2.8 STM.  It doesn’t seem to affect all the 40mm STM lenses though as I was anable to get my copy to produce the documented issue. To Users of the EF40mm f/2.8 STM Interchangeable Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras Thank you for using Canon products. It has been confirmed that the autofocusing function of the EF40mm f/2.8 STM lens, which was released in June 2012, may not operate correctly. The details of this phenomenon are described below. Canon 7D Firmware Version 2 Is Here – BIG Updates

You can finally download the previously announced V2 firmware for the Canon 7D HERE from Canon. The press release below walks you through all the changes and if you are a 7D shooter then you are going to be feeling pretty good about now.  There are a lot of improvements and to me it doesn’t seem like this would be something that Canon would be doing if there was a 7D MKIII just around the corner. Canon EOS 7D firmware v2 – new features: Improved maximum burst for RAW images (up to 25) In-camera RAW image editing In-camera Image Rating …

Expanded Thoughts On Canon’s Plans

Over on ProPhoto Coalition I have expanded my thoughts on Canon’s future plans having seen the new EOS-M camera. Please head on over to take a look.

Free Model Release iOS App From The ASMP

There’s a few model release apps in the Apple App store that you have to pay for but they are some of the most expensive apps out there.  This time the ASMP has put out a FREE one!  Can’t say fairer than that. Check it out. “A must have app for professional photographers working in all genres of the business. Photographer can customize a Model or Property release using the ASMP standard releases. The app allows you to create templates, take a photograph of the subject, specify the uses for the images, including any sensitive or digital manipulation issues, and …

Canon Makes Mirrorless Official – EOS M

Canon’s ship is typically a leaky one so we’ve had full specs and photos of this camera for a few days now.  Today though Canon officially launched their EOS-M mirrorless camera platform. Canon are last to the mirrorless market amongst the big players and on paper they have come out with an impressive package.  Most noticeably, the camera is TINY.  It is actually smaller than the Panasonic GF5 Mirco Fourthirds camera but critically it packs a full APS-C sized sensor and not a smaller M 4/3 one.  An 18MP APS-C sensor no less. The camera will begin shipping with either …

Canon’s Mirrorless Camera Leaked – EOS M

Canon are finally making the jump into the mirrorless market and the first images of the first camera, expected to be officially launched on Sunday night, have leaked onto the internet via DigicameInfo and Canon Rumors.  Details are relatively thin on the ground at the moment but what is clear is that this camera has a pretty big sensor (probably APS-C) and the camera itself  is TINY.  We’re talking the size of a G1 X here.  It will also ship with a 22mm f2.0 lens which would be close to a 35mm equivalent if the sensor is indeed APS-C.  What …

Canon’s On Screen EOS-1D X User Guides

Here’s a little interesting piece of Canon news regarding the EOS-1D X.  Canon has launched a series of videos guides which are designed to be played back on the camera.  You can download the videos right HERE and then load them onto a memory card to keep out in the field with you or on a trip.  The EOS-1D X shares a lot of the functionality of the EOS 5D Mark III and having used that camera for a few months now I can tell you that it is probably the first camera I’ve ever owned where I absolutely NEEDED …
