Interview with Mylio

Mylio is a company that makes organizational software for photographers.  Full disclosure: I’ve never used it, so this isn’t meant in any way to be an endorsement of their product or service. They did want to interview me about my photography, though, and you can now read the interview on the Mylio website here.

The thing that’s special about this one is that the Blood Moon style of lunar eclipse won’t take place again until 2033!  That’s 18 years away! For the love of photography, learn new things

Learning to climb: Day 1. Tacking a 5.8 called Big Wuss near Whistler, BC. Photo: Rowan Thornton   I’ve always maintained that one of the things I love most about photography is that you are never truly ‘done’.  There can be no end to creation and art. Once you commit to going down this path, you’re in it for life in some way or other. There’s always new techniques to explore, and your style will change and mature over time. A couple of years ago I’d never aimed a lens at an animal before, but Instagram opened my eyes to …

Sad News From IndyCar

As a motorsport fan, and sometime motorsport photographer, it’s a sad day when someone gets killed doing what they love. Today is one of those days as we hear the news that British IndyCar driver, Justin Wilson, has succumbed to the head injuries he sustained yesterday at the Pocono Raceway…

New “For Sale” page added

I’ve added a new page to the site where I will occasionally list the gear that I have for sale. I’m often turning over my camera gear so that I can test new items out, so this should come in useful, and there’s several items on there already…

Notes from a month on the road

Having recently spent a month away from my home and office, I thought I’d write down a few notes about photography “on the road”. That kind of time away from usual surroundings is a surefire way to reveal weaknesses in workflow and gear, and a few things stood out to me so I thought I’d share them.

New Way To Subscribe

I’ve made a few changes and added a new way to subscribe to the blog so that you never miss anything important!

Disqus Commenting System Removed From Site

A little housekeeping post today to say that the Disqus comment system has been removed from the site, and we’re back to regular WordPress comments. I’ve had Disqus running on this site for a couple of years, but many people do not like it as it forces you to sign in with social media. It does a great job of keeping spam comments at bay, but overall I think it was holding back discussion on the site. I’d rather sort out spam on a daily basis, and hear you guys interacting on the posts! So please, drop us a line …
