Nikon’s New 800mm Monster Gets Official

This week at the Japanese CP+ show Nikon made their new 800mm lens official and set a whopping $17,899 price tag ! The 800mm has been a lens missing from the Nikon arsenal but one that has been popular with Canon shooters, predominantly wildlife professionals. The lens will be available , presumably in limited quantities due to the price, in April and you can pre-order it from B&H or Amazon right now. Note that the press release below also covers the dull sounding 18-35mm replacement…… Press Release MELVILLE, N.Y. (January 28, 2013) – Today, Nikon Inc. introduced the AF-S NIKKOR …

Fuji Launches The X100s

Two years ago Fuji created a storm in the camera market with the launch of the X100. The retro styling, large APS-C sensor and f2 prime lens was a breath of fresh air and for six months or more after the launch date they were nigh on impossible to get hold of such was their popularity! I owned one myself for about a year and you can read my review HERE if you need a refresher. Today Fuji have unveiled the cameras successor and it looks as though they have kept all the good bits of the previous camera and …

Two New Canon Lenses Leaked! 35mm f2 & 24-70 f4 IS

Well here’s a turn up for the books. Two Canon lenses leaked onto the net today via Digicame-info. A 35mm f2.0 and a 24-70 f4 L IS. The 35mm will be an interesting lens, much smaller than the f1.4 L bigger brother and if it follows the same optical quality of recent 24mm and 28mm lenses it should be very nice. Now the 24-70 though….. this is just an odd lens to me! Seems like a replacement to the 24-105, but why oh why would they lower the range like that ?!! It’s also going to have recent purchasers of …

If you’re looking for a more covert bag to carry camera gear and a laptop then definitely take a look at these. The materials that they use are bomb proof …

Use Your DSLR On A 4×5 Camera

Multistitch is another interesting product I came across at PhotoPlus Expo last week. It allows you to mount your regular DSLR onto a 4×5 view camera to generate images with nearly four times the resolution of the DSLR. The product is a machined metal plate with a mount on it that clips onto the back of your view camera. Now obviously your 35mm DSLR sensor won’t cover the full 4×5 view with one shot so the plate is designed that you put it on and take a shot, then you rotate it 90 degrees and take a second shot. Next …

Broncolor Move 1200 L – Ultimate Portable Strobe System?

One of the products on my must-see list when I set off to PhotoPlus Expo was Broncolor’s new Move 1200 battery pack. It was officially announced a few months back at Photokina but with a spring 2013 launch scheduled there hasn’t been an opportunity for me to take a look until last week. As many of you who read this site often are aware, I currently have an Elinchrom Ranger system. It’s a bit long in the tooth though. In fact, I don’t think they have updated it in about ten years so these days there are better options. Faster, …
