PhotoPlus Expo Coverage

I’m in New York right now having just finished an interesting few days at PhotoPlus Expo. I’m going to use this post as something of an index for the coverage as a few articles will be appearing on ProPhoto Coalition. On my site: On ProPhoto Coalition

Mindshift Gear – A New Outdoor Photography Bag Company From Within Think Tank

EDIT: Note that this bag is now available and I have done a HUGE in-depth review of it HERE on my new website Shutter Muse. Mindshift is an entirely new company formed from within the design studios of Think Tank Photo that will concentrate on the outdoor photography market. It will be run as a separate company but with all the same focus on design and high quality that we have come to expect from Think Tank. Products will be manufactured alongside the existing Think Tank ones and the design of the Rotation 180 Professional was done in house by …

Canon EOS-1D X Firmware Update Gives F8 Autofocus & More…

Canon have been listening to the desires of the professional community and implemented a very important firmware update to the EOS-1D X today. With this update the 1D X will now be able to focus with f8 lens combinations such as an 800mm f5.6 + 1.4x extender, or a 400mm f4 DO + 2x extender. This has previously been the case with 1D cameras but for some reason Canon decided to remove it from the 1D, much to many peoples annoyance. The second major fix addresses the illumination of AF points during focus and further details can be found below. …

Canon’s first ever mirrorless CSC will begin shipping from major N.American stores today, October 15th. The APS-C sensored camera is the fist such camera from Canon who now joins Sony, Panasonic, Olympus and Nikon in offering near-pocketsized interchangeable lens cameras.

Is the 46.1MP Canon EOS 3D For Real??

Apparently a camera labelled as Canon EOS 3D briefly surfaced on the B&H website earlier today (via Petapixel). It’s unclear at the moment if this is real or not, the camera no longer appears in the search and the manufacturer # listed on the search result is one that was previously used for a Canon ELPH point and shoot camera. I can’t think why they would re-use a number but it could have been a place holder.

LaCie Launches Rugged Thunderbolt & USB3 Drive

Finally we are starting to see Thunderbolt drives hit the market and give us some options. I few months ago I picket up a Seagate drive which I reviewed but there have been few other travel sized options. All my previous travel drives have been LaCie Rugged drives and today LaCie are launching new Rugged drives with Thunderbolt & USB3. To my knowledge this is the first drive to feature BOTH of the new fast interfaces and than makes it perfect of people with a Thunderbolt enabled laptop but lack Thunderbolt on their office machine like me. In other words …

New Think Tank Shoulder Bags – Citywalker

As well as the new Airport Navigator, Think Tank have also unveiled a new line of shoulder bags today at Photokina. The bags look to be somewhat similar to the Retrospective series but with a removable camera insert and a bit more of a modern and funky design. Available in three sizes, the 10,20 and 30.

New Think Tank Roller – The Airport Navigator

We’re big Think Tank Roller fans here, just a couple of weeks ago I posted a long term review of the Airport Airstream that I use all the time. Today Think Tank have announced a new bag to the lineup called the Navigator. This is a really neat little design that allows you quick access to your cameras from the top of the bag as well as the regular front panel opening! Here’s what Think Tank has to say about it: Think Tank Photo to Release Airport Navigator™ Top- and Front-accessible Photographer Rolling Pilot’s Case Santa Rosa, Calif. – Think …

Leica Launches The ‘M’

Well we all figured they would call it M10 but they just went with ‘M’ instead. Solms, Germany (September 17, 2012) – Leica Camera presents a groundbreaking milestone in the nearly 60 year history of the Leica rangefinder system: The Leica M. Setting entirely new standards, the Leica M unites the ultimate in rangefinder precision with cutting edge digital technology. Leica Broadens Its Market With $5450 Leica M-E

Now THIS is cool!! 18MP full frame camera is essentially an M9 in a new body to appeal to those who just can’t swing the high price of the new M10. Bravo Leica ! There were a lot of bogus reports of making an APS-C mirrorless system but this was absolutely the right way to do things. I’m so excited I might even buy one! What a beauty. EDIT: No I won’t buy one because they still have the same 230,000 dot LCD on it from the 1980s. Yes it is that crap that I would change my decision. Come …

Canon Launches Entry Level Full Frame Camera – EOS 6D

Hot on the heals of Nikons D600 announcement last week, Canon has joined the cheaper full frame party with the new EOS 6D. I wrote an article last month in which I made some guesses about Canon’s long terms plans….. this announcement fits in my theory pretty nicely and Canon are even further along in this plan than I had suspected. Rumors of this camera were kept quite tight until the last few days so I think Canon has been plugging their leaky ship a little bit more. The question now will be ‘ is there going to be a 7D …
