Finally we are starting to see Thunderbolt drives hit the market and give us some options. I few months ago I picket up a Seagate drive which I reviewed but there have been few other travel sized options. All my previous travel drives have been LaCie Rugged drives and today LaCie are launching new Rugged drives with Thunderbolt & USB3. To my knowledge this is the first drive to feature BOTH of the new fast interfaces and than makes it perfect of people with a Thunderbolt enabled laptop but lack Thunderbolt on their office machine like me. In other words …
There’s an interesting compositional trick used in this shot, and it’s NOT the “rule of thirds”. Can you tell what it is? Read on to find out why my angle to the bridge really mattered.
As well as the new Airport Navigator, Think Tank have also unveiled a new line of shoulder bags today at Photokina. The bags look to be somewhat similar to the Retrospective series but with a removable camera insert and a bit more of a modern and funky design. Available in three sizes, the 10,20 and 30.
We’re big Think Tank Roller fans here, just a couple of weeks ago I posted a long term review of the Airport Airstream that I use all the time. Today Think Tank have announced a new bag to the lineup called the Navigator. This is a really neat little design that allows you quick access to your cameras from the top of the bag as well as the regular front panel opening! Here’s what Think Tank has to say about it: Think Tank Photo to Release Airport Navigator™ Top- and Front-accessible Photographer Rolling Pilot’s Case Santa Rosa, Calif. – Think …
Quite simply the number of cameras announced this week is mind boggling. Over on ProPhoto Coalition I have written a summary of what I consider to be the important ones broken down into bite-sized chunks. Please click HERE to read the article.
With Canon’s introduction of the new EOS 6D comes a question that many people are going to consider. 5D Vs 6D. For full frame Canon photography there has never been this choice before in this price bracket and it is exciting that people who have been using APS-C cameras for some time, now have the opportunity to upgrade. The invention of APS-C sized sensors was purely down to the manufacturing costs of CMOS sensors when digital DSLRs were developed. The cost of the sensor represented a huge proportion of the overall camera cost but now, as that cost has come …
Well we all figured they would call it M10 but they just went with ‘M’ instead. Solms, Germany (September 17, 2012) – Leica Camera presents a groundbreaking milestone in the nearly 60 year history of the Leica rangefinder system: The Leica M. Setting entirely new standards, the Leica M unites the ultimate in rangefinder precision with cutting edge digital technology. As the first camera to implement a newly designed CMOS image sensor and to feature additional focusing methods and functions such as Live View and Full HD video capability, it is the most versatile Leica rangefinder model ever. Remaining true …
Now THIS is cool!! 18MP full frame camera is essentially an M9 in a new body to appeal to those who just can’t swing the high price of the new M10. Bravo Leica ! There were a lot of bogus reports of making an APS-C mirrorless system but this was absolutely the right way to do things. I’m so excited I might even buy one! What a beauty. EDIT: No I won’t buy one because they still have the same 230,000 dot LCD on it from the 1980s. Yes it is that crap that I would change my decision. Come …
Hot on the heals of Nikons D600 announcement last week, Canon has joined the cheaper full frame party with the new EOS 6D. I wrote an article last month in which I made some guesses about Canon’s long terms plans….. this announcement fits in my theory pretty nicely and Canon are even further along in this plan than I had suspected. Rumors of this camera were kept quite tight until the last few days so I think Canon has been plugging their leaky ship a little bit more. The question now will be ‘ is there going to be a 7D …
The full frame wars are hotting up and what used to be a feature confined to the pro marketplace has now found its way into the prosumer marketplace simultaneously from the top two manufacturers. The high cost of CMOS sensor production was the catalyst for ‘crop’ frame APS-C cameras but now that these costs have reduced we can finally get back to the way things are meant to be, the way they always were with film cameras and a 35mm film. This is an exciting time in the industry and I’m happy to say that both Canon and Nikon appear …
Fuji knows how to design a cool looking camera and the new XF1 is no exception. This takes the same sensor from the popular and highly regarded X10 and puts it into a even more svelte package. FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is proud to announce the launch of the XF1, a pocket-sized premium compact digital camera. This latest addition to Fujifilm’s X-series range of cameras is due to be on sale in November this year. With its perfectly matched lens and sensor, careful attention to detail on appearance and design, and accessible technology, the XF1 extends the X series …
