Comparing Canon’s 300mm f2.8 Ls – MKI Vs MKII

I’m a big fan of the original Canon 300mm f2.8 L IS, it has served me well from covers to ads I’ve packed this thing around the world with me shooting up mountains and around race tracks with frankly stunning results. I’ve never once caught myself wishing for anything more from the lens, I even shoot it regularly with extenders and produce more than useable images. When Canon announced its replacement last year I wondered how much of an improvement they could really make. In reading the various press releases for all of Canon’s new Super Telephotos it became clear …

Is the 46.1MP Canon EOS 3D For Real??

Apparently a camera labelled as Canon EOS 3D briefly surfaced on the B&H website earlier today (via Petapixel). It’s unclear at the moment if this is real or not, the camera no longer appears in the search and the manufacturer # listed on the search result is one that was previously used for a Canon ELPH point and shoot camera. I can’t think why they would re-use a number but it could have been a place holder.

LaCie Launches Rugged Thunderbolt & USB3 Drive

Finally we are starting to see Thunderbolt drives hit the market and give us some options. I few months ago I picket up a Seagate drive which I reviewed but there have been few other travel sized options. All my previous travel drives have been LaCie Rugged drives and today LaCie are launching new Rugged drives with Thunderbolt & USB3. To my knowledge this is the first drive to feature BOTH of the new fast interfaces and than makes it perfect of people with a Thunderbolt enabled laptop but lack Thunderbolt on their office machine like me. In other words …

New Think Tank Roller – The Airport Navigator

We’re big Think Tank Roller fans here, just a couple of weeks ago I posted a long term review of the Airport Airstream that I use all the time. Today Think Tank have announced a new bag to the lineup called the Navigator. This is a really neat little design that allows you quick access to your cameras from the top of the bag as well as the regular front panel opening! Here’s what Think Tank has to say about it: Think Tank Photo to Release Airport Navigator™ Top- and Front-accessible Photographer Rolling Pilot’s Case Santa Rosa, Calif. – Think …

Canon 6D Vs. Canon 5D Mark 3 & Making The Jump To Full Frame

With Canon’s introduction of the new EOS 6D comes a question that many people are going to consider. 5D Vs 6D. For full frame Canon photography there has never been this choice before in this price bracket and it is exciting that people who have been using APS-C cameras for some time, now have the opportunity to upgrade. The invention of APS-C sized sensors was purely down to the manufacturing costs of CMOS sensors when digital DSLRs were developed. The cost of the sensor represented a huge proportion of the overall camera cost but now, as that cost has come …
