DVD Cover – Poorboyz REVOLVER

Poorboyz Productions just dropped the trailer for their new movie REVOLVER. Along with the trailer they also released the DVD box art and I’m happy to say that the main image on the front of the box is one of my shots from my trip to Alaska this past spring time. The skier is Tim Durtchi and the photo was taken near Haines while we were up there with the awesome crew from Alaska Heliskiing. Tim skied a few turns down the face in the background and then launched a huge rodeo 720 off the wind-lip deep down into that …

Ski photo slideshow for 2010 Olympics in Whistler

Before the 2010 Olympics kicked off in my home town of Whistler, BC, I was commissioned by the local arts council to produce a slideshow of some of my skiing images. The slideshow was played on TVs and giant screens around the Olympics during the breaks between events. Check it out below and click through to Vimeo if you want to watch it in HD. Max Hill – SBC Skier Cover

A nice surprise in my mail box this morning. I knew about this for a couple of weeks but today was the first time I have seen the finished product. This is my 8th cover but my first one in N.America so i’m really pleased with this one. Max Hill is the man on the cover and the shot was taken last April in Whistler, BC. I had the idea for this shot about 3 years ago but that year at the time we didn’t have the snow for it. Last year there was plenty in the spring time so …

Whistler Blackcomb Peak to Peak campaign

Back in the spring time I was asked to shoot a campaign for Whistler Blackcomb. The ads were to center around the new Peak to Peak gondola that spans the gap between Whistler and Blackcomb and the first versions have now hit the news stands in Freeskier magazine and Transworld Snowboarding. We had some difficulties with the weather for these shoots and they were postponed multiple times but in the end it turned out really well. On the left is Max Hill, on the right Mikey Pederson.

Summer is coming

Yesterday was Gaper day here in Whistler. Blackcomb is now closed and Whistler is open for some limited spring skiing. I have one more snowboard shoot left to do here with the Sandbox crew and it looks like we will get that done towards the end of this week when the current low pressure has cleared out. Winter is nearly done. When winter finishes in Whistler though you only get a couple of weeks off before summer camps start up on the glacier. I’m stoked already, the Blackcomb glacier hosts 2 of the best summer parks in the world. Momentum …

Back to my roots

Well as some of you know, I am originally from the UK. For a country that doesn’t really have any skiing of it’s own, there is a large and talented ski scene there and several great magazines. I often shoot stories for a magazine called Fall Line and this month I have an article about summer skiing in there with the added bonus of the cover photo too of rising UK star James Woods.

Skieur -Schuster is bigger in France

I got an e-mail this morning from Frank Raymond to say that I had the cover of the Skieur magazine in France. The photo was shot last winter in the Whistler backcountry with the Theory-3 crew while filming for their movie ” The Journal”. You can see another version of the shot from the magazine scan I posted from the Norweigen magazine yesterday. They are actually 2 different shots, I figured it would be nice to have a portrait and a landscape version of the shot so Joe did this trick a few times. It was a great day for …

Fri Flyt – Big in Norway

One off shots in magazines are nice, but it’s even nicer when you get a collection of shots together for an article. Last month Fri Flyt , one of the major ski mags in Norway, ran a few of shots of mine in an article about filming in Whistler with Theory-3 media. The article was written by a good friend of mine, Andreas Amble. Check out his blog here. He is also a very talented graphic designer. Check out Theory-3s movie “The Journal” in all good ski stores or pick it up online from the website linked above.

SIA Vegas – Tradeshow Banners

The annual ski industry trade show, SIA, has been and gone in Las Vegas last week. I wasn’t there myself but here is a few photos of some of my photos that were used at the show in various booths. All the original shots were taken with the 8 megapixel Canon 1DMKIIN. So if you every wandered how big you could blow up these photos , check it out!

CR Johnson – Spyder advert

This shot is on the back cover of the December Issue of Freeskier. It was shot in April on Blackcomb mountain in Whistler, BC during a shoot with Matchstick Productions. To read the full story about the shoot you can read my article on Newschoolers.com here and as always, click the photo to view it larger. The conditions for this shoot had been tough all week. Unseasonably cold weather left the jump too hard to hit for a few days and it came right down to the last possible day before the MSP crew had to leave town. Even then …

Whistler Blackcomb Ad – Peak To Peak

I sold a photo to Whistler Blackcomb recently for them to use in an advert for the new Peak to Peak gondola. If you haven’t heard of the gondola project check it out here. The gondola spans the valley between Whistler and Blackcomb mountain and will be officially opened this winter. The clever part is in the design though, it’s only held up by four lift towers on its 2.8 mile length leaving a 1.88 mile length in the middle completely unsupported! This is the shot of Marshal Talbot that was used. It was shot on Whistler mountain this past …
