Firmware Updates for Canon 60D and 60Da

Firmware Version 1.1.1 incorporates the following fixes. *1) If the camera’s serial number is 2147483648 or higher and the camera firmware is Version 1.1.0 or earlier, the images captured with the camera will be affected by the phenomenon listed in 1. above. This phenomenon only affects the EOS 60D, and does not affect the EOS 60Da. Both of these cameras are equipped with the same firmware. To obtain the serial number correctly in the shooting information of images that are already captured using the old firmware, we are preparing updates for Digital Photo Professional and ZoomBrowser EX / ImageBrowser applications. …

Canon Launches New EF40mm f/2.8 Pancake Lens

Canon’s first pancake lens was unveiled today alongside the launch of the Rebel T4i DLSR. Since the introduction of mirrorless cameras, pancake lenses have become popular on those models from Sony, Olympus and Panasonic as a way to decrease the size of the photography kit you carry. Canon’s introduction of their first pancake lens is an interesting move, and one that I think will be quite popular. It’s generally accepted that Canon will release their own mirrorless camera, possible even this month (June 2012) but whilst this lens would probably work on that, I don’t believe it’s specifically targeted it …

Canon Launches The New Rebel T4i

The latest iteration of the Rebel lineup, the T4i (650D in some countries) has been unveiled today and it seems some significant upgrades over previous models. Ergonomically it seems to have something more of a ‘pro’ styling to it, looking more like the 5D Mark 3 if you ask me. In terms of the specs we are seeing a much upgraded AF system, to that which is currently in the EOS 60D as well as a 63 zone metering system. The Rebel T4i is also the first Canon DSLR to have a touchscreen. Scroll down to see some videos of …

Canon Canada Confirms Further Delay to 1D X

According to Rob Galbraith, Canadian dealers have been informed by Canon that the new flagship Canon 1D X will begin to ship in limited quantities at the end of July.  First, cameras will go to CPS members heading to the Olympics, a policy that most will be familiar with.  While we all suspected this camera had been delayed, it’s a shame to see it confirmed.  Glad I got my 5D MK3 and didn’t wait for the 1D!

New Sony Large Sensor Compact Camera

I generally skip over point and shoot cameras unless they REALLY grab my attention. There’s just too many of them and I have no use for 99% of them. Sony have today unveiled the RX100 though which will sit at the top of their P&S lineup and go head to head with the Canon G1X. The sensor in the RX100 is similar in size to the Nikon 1-Series cameras , though a little smaller than the Canon G1X it is still much bigger than typical P&S cameras. On top of that, I think this camera actually looks pretty stunning! I …

New Mac Pros Due Next Week From Apple

According to the website 9To5Mac, Apple is set to finally update the Mac Pro line next week at the WWDC conference.  That noise you hear ?  That’s the collective sigh of relief from the creative community.  It’s been nearly two years since the introduction of the previous Mac Pro and speculation had been rife that the Mac Pro lineup was simply not profitable enough in Apple’s books.  Many people had already concluded that the line was dead, replaced by new top-end iMacs with Thunderbolt ports.  The previous incarnation of the Mac Pro (which I own) does not have Thunderbolt ports …
