This one has been a long time coming! Reports of an updated 24-70 have been going around for two or three years. Initially it seemed like it was going to have IS but this photo leaked today (via Canon Rumors) shows that in fact it does not have IS.
- 82mm Filter Thread
- Lighter than the original version (which is a bit of a beast!)
- approx $1799
to bad it’s a fake photo. compare with 16-35
Compare which bit with the 16-35 ? I don’t think this is fake. Of course when Canon update their lenses they try to give them the same look as previous new lenses.
82mm? i’ll get the old one since it’s cheaper and fits all my 77mm filters.
Yeah that is a bit of an annoyance with the 82mm thing. But I was never happy with the sharpness of the old version when used wide open.
Well it is officially out! That isn’t an IS switch. It is the new lever lock mechanism to lock the zoom at a particular length. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup/ef_24_70mm_f_2_8l_ii_usm?WT.mc_id=EM1202EO03001&RID=1-546SLO&CON=1-VFC-1739&PRO=&CID=1-51SOR6
I never said it was an IS switch. In fact I expressly said it did NOT have IS.
