"so they can slide around and pick their favorites."

It would be nice if one of the many useless iPad photo related apps would allow a user to tag selected photos (let alone allow you to move them into a new folder). Alas, not to be. Still a new useless editing app is always on the way. The entire device seems targeted to my granny with her point and shoot.

The more I use the iPad the more limited I realize it is.

Gary thanks for your input! Those are some great ways to use the iPad. I'm sure it will add to your customers overall experience.

First of all I really enjoyed this article so thanks for the input! Second I want to say that I just purchased an iPad for our studio and here is how we are using it:

1. We do portrait sales in our studio using the projection method. We plan to have the iPad in the clients hands after they have viewed the images initially so they can slide around and pick their favorites.

2. We are using it as our price menu and product menu in the sales room. We actually have images that include pictures of the products that we offer and can even include images of the products with suggested purchases that have their images in them.

3. We also use an online studio management software called ShootQ (which is AMAZING). Clients will be able to place and pay for their orders right in their hands while in our studio using the combination of the iPad's ease of use and ShootQ.

4. We also might offer the iPad as an alternative or in addition to a wedding album for our wedding clients...the jury is still out on that one.

Thanks

Gary

yes there are apps that do that but you would need to plug the external drive into a laptop to power it and you would need a wi-fi network too so it's a bit pointless then, might as well just use the laptop.

You could possibly use the mobileme app, to transfer your pictures from the ipad to an external harddrive. Im not sure if it works, but I know there many apps that enables you to share files over a wi-fi network.
