My theory with the 2012 stuff is just that the mayan people didn't have enough room on the slate to go further than 2012. Somewhere buried in the mountains is another slate which starts with the words "Page 2......"

i've been using a drop-able, splash-able, external hard drive from transcend; http://www.transcendusa.com/products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=248&LangNo=0&Func1No=&Func2No=

then using super duper; http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html to make hard a hard drive clone, which is bootable. So i have all my email, applications, in a bootable drive which can stand some abuse.

I've been meaning to do this for ages, I know a couple of guys who have a bootable CF card which they keep in their travel gear... so it is a cheap but essential job to do....

Absolutely Scott, I should have mentioned that you need a retail version of OSX. But these are also so cheap to buy if you dont have one. Good points, thanks for leaving a comment, and thanks for the SATA drive. If anyone in Whistler needs Apple advice or computer parts go and talk to Scott!

Great article!
A couple of caveats to mention:
When restoring an OSX image to an external drive, I would recommend using a retail version of OSX and not the Grey system disc that came with your computer. The grey discs are specific to the Mac it was shipped with and may not work on other computers due to kext differences should you wish to use the image on a different computer.

PPC (power PC) Macs will not be able to boot from an image created as GUID(Intel), however Intel computers can boot from from PPC images.

You can also backup your 'Home' folder to a thumb drive and use this in another persons Mac, but thats a post for another day....
